Lakers’ Owner Jerry Buss Hospitalized: NBA News at YouWager

YouWager experts have learned that Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss has been hospitalized.

According to a Lakers spokesman there will be no comments on the situation out of respect for the family’s privacy. Furthermore, a hospital spokesman did not confirm whether Buss was at the hospital.

The 80 year-old Buss has an undisclosed form of cancer, according to the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper stated he has spent time in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, citing “multiple team personnel.”

Ever since 2011 the Utah native has been in and out of the hospital. The Los Angeles basketball team confirmed he was in the hospital in December 2011 for blood clots in his leg, which was supposedly caused by excessive travel.

Buss has passed the day-to-day operation of the Lakers on to his children, Jim (who oversees basketball operations) and Jeanie (who oversees the business side of the franchise). However, Buss was involved in the NBA offseason acquisition of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, and in the in-season coaching move that fired Mike Brown and hired Mike D’Antoni.

Forbes magazine recently valued the Lakers at $1 billion, the second most valuable team in the league behind the New York Knicks.
