Tip-off: Monday, February 4, 2013 – 9:00 PM ET
Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado
Even though the Colorado Avalanche have had many problems due to injuries they have also managed to score a healthy amount of goals too.
Tonight Colorado will try to come out victorious for the third straight time and remain unbeaten at home when they take on the Dallas Stars, who will have to do without their leading scorer.
After totaling one goal in three straight defeats during a four-game road trip, the Avalanche (4-4-0) responded with a 6-3 victory versus the Calgary Flames on Thursday and a 3-1 home victory over the Edmonton two Oilers days later.
However, Colorado had to deal with another issue Saturday when defenseman Ryan Wilson went down in the second period with a leg injury. The 26 year-old won’t play tonight and is out indefinitely.
The Avalanche went ahead and moved forward without Steve Downie (ACL), Gabriel Landeskog (head, leg) and David Jones (knee). Downie and Landeskog will not play for a while while Jones is day-to-day.
Assistance has come from P.A. Parenteau and Paul Stastny combining for six goals in the last two games.
Stastny has 11 goals and 20 points in his last 18 games versus Dallas, and he’ll look to assist Colorado keep their outstanding performance at home, where they’ve outscored opponents 10-2 while winning their first three games.
The Stars (3-5-1) have killed 24 of 26 penalties over their last five games, but are still 1-4-0 in that stretch following a 2-0 defeat versus the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday. YouWager experts point out how Dallas has had to face difficulties scoring in all of their road games, totaling four goals while going 1-4-0 in rivals’ rinks.
Dallas has injury concerns also with Ray Whitney expected to miss at least four weeks because of a broken foot. Whitney had six points to lead the NHL team before going on the injured list Saturday.
