Jets Rex Ryan in Bahamas: NFL News at YouWager

Now that the New York Jets are ready to begin interviews with general manager candidates and while it’s still unclear what will happen with his coaching staff, Rex Ryan has decided to head to the Bahamas for some time off, YouWager has learned.

The 50 year-old coach and the assistant coaches have the week off, so Ryan has taken a little vacation as the Jets begin the process of choosing his new boss.

Coach Ryan and owner Woody Johnson have not been able to discuss New York’s disappointing NFL season and the firing of general manager Mike Tannenbaum. Things came to an end when the team announced Wednesday that Ryan and Johnson will conduct a “season ending” news conference. This will take place nine days after the season ended.

With such a delay the team will be in violation of the NFL’s media policy, which states that the coach and a team official must conduct a news conference during the week after the season ends. The league will look into the matter, according to a source.

It’s not possible for the Jets to hire a new GM by next today’s news conference.

The matter could have been dealt with immediately after the season without creating such a mess. However, the Jets decided to go ahead and release a five-paragraph statement from Johnson, with no comment from Ryan, one of the most media-friendly coaches in the NFL.

Even when Johnson has said that Ryan will be back as coach, the delay has made online sports betting experts consider the possibilities about his future. Earlier this week Ryan told the Jets he will be back and he gave no indication during his staff meeting that he’s thinking about leaving.
