Dallas Mavericks vs. Boston Celtics

Tip-off: Wednesday, December 12, 2012 – 8:00 PM ET

TD Garden, Boston, MA

YouWager experts consider it’s very likely Jason Terry’s play last season for the Dallas Mavericks against the Boston Celtics weighs heavily on why he has a different uniform now.

Terry will face his former team for the first time since joining Boston tonight.

The Mavs (11-10) have won four straight over the Celtics (11-9), with Dirk Nowitzki leading the way with 24.0 points per game. Nowitzki is nearing a return, but remains out after right knee surgery.

The 35 year-old Terry averaged 17.0 points in last season’s two victories over the Celtics, and the free agent joined Boston on a three-year deal after eight seasons with the Mavericks — his second team after beginning his career with the Atlanta hawks. He is sixth on Dallas’ all-time list with 9,953 points, seventh with 2,524 assists and second behind Nowitzki with 1,140 3-pointers.

Things haven’t been as smooth as he would have wanted them to be with his new team as the sharpshooter is averaging 11.5 points for his lowest mark since his rookie season.

The Mavericks are looking for a season-high fourth straight win in the opener of a three-game trip. O.J. Mayo led six Dallas in double figures with 19 points in Monday’s 119-96 rout of the Sacramento Kings .

Even when Dallas posted their second-highest point total of the NBA basketball season, coach Rick Carlisle credited a defensive effort that limited Sacramento to 44.0 percent shooting.

The Celtics had a strong defense and this was a big reason why the team posted their third straight home victory, 92-79 over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Boston limited the Sixers to 39.2 percent from the field.

The Celtics recovered from a 95-94 defeat versus the 76ers the night before. Kevin Garnett scored 19 points and Rajon Rondo had 11 assists.

Rajon Rondo continues to lead the league with 12.8 assists per game.

While the Celtics have had difficulties shooting 26.4 percent on 3-pointers in its last three games, the Mavs are shooting 37.5 percent from long range during their run, with Mayo making 12 of 18.
