New York Knicks vs. Miami Heat
Tip-off: Thursday, December 6, 2012 – 8:00 PM ET
AmericanAirlines Arena, Miami, FL
YouWager NBA fans may get the chance to see Carmelo Anthony play tonight in the much anticipated rematch the New York Knicks have against the Miami Heat.
A finger injury could keep Anthony from helping the Knicks try to prevent their sixth straight loss in Miami, while the Heat look to remain motivated after a stunning defeat in the nation’s capital.
The 28 year-old Anthony entered yesterday’s game versus the Charlotte Bobcats averaging 30.7 points over his previous six. He had 23 when he dove into the Knicks bench after a loose ball and suffered a deep cut to his left middle finger with 2:10 remaining.
That situation left New York needing another option down the stretch. Enter J.R. Smith, who intercepted a pass with less than 20 seconds left, then hit a jumper as the buzzer sounded — the final two of his 13 points — to give the team a 100-98 win.
The Knicks (13-4) have won five straight and has the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Anthony scored 30 points in the Knicks’ 104-84 home victory over the Heat on Nov. 2, but New York has lost nine of the last 10 road meetings with Miami — including the postseason.
However, the Heat are coming off a 105-100 defeat versus the Washington Wizards — which had only one win entering the contest — that ended a season-best six-game winning streak.
The Knicks may heavily rely on Smith if Anthony is unable to play, but shooting against Miami has been difficult for Smith. He’s hit just 33.6 percent from the field versus the Heat in eight meetings since the start of the previous NBA season.
