Barry Alvarez Will Coach Rose Bowl: College Football Talk at YouWager

Wisconsin Badgers athletic director Barry Alvarez will make his way back to the sideline to coach his team against the Stanford Cardinal in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio, according to what was said by coach Bret Bielema at his introductory news conference at Arkansas.

Different sources have confirmed that Alvarez will coach in the bowl game on New Year’s Day as a one-game comeback to coaching.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that team captains asked the 65 year-old coach to help the team, and he said yes.

Bielema, who lost the previous two Rose Bowls and became coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks on Tuesday, jokingly said, “They might finally win one.”

In addition, YouWager experts learned that Alvarez also told the Wall Street Journal that he had not ruled out coaching the team and that he would announce his decision today. The Badgers have scheduled a news conference for this morning.

A native of Pennsylvania, coach Alvarez is a College Football Hall of Famer who led Wisconsin to three Rose Bowl victories. When he retired seven years ago he turned the program over to his handpicked successor, Bielema.
