NFL PREVIEW AT YOUWAGER: BRONCOS VS. RAIDERS

Denver Broncos (9-3 SU, 6-6 ATS) vs. Oakland Raiders (3-9 SU, 3-9 ATS) at Oakland

Kickoff: Thursday, December 6th at 8:20PM Eastern

Line: Denver -10

Total: 48

The Oakland Raiders have only managed 3 victories in the 2012 NFL football wagering season, but when Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos visit them, one of the best rivalries in the AFC West could still provide YouWager’s football bettors with some exciting action for Thursday Night Football.

Oakland has blown 5 games in a row to drop out of the picture in the AFC West, and 3 of those losses happened at home. In last week’s 20-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns, Oakland managed to make a touchdown near the end. Some sportsbook bettors expect the Raiders to take some of their frustration out on Manning and try to wreck Denver’s shot at the playoffs

Denver clinched the AFC West title last week with their 31-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Broncos grabbed 24 points in the second half of that contest to claim their 8th consecutive victory. YouWager’s more skeptical bettors expect to see the Broncos steamroll over the Raiders and humiliate them in front of their home crowd.

It’s pretty bad when a team is a 10-point underdog at home. That’s how the Oakland is rated by the oddsmakers at YouWager right now. But it may not be that simple.

Offensively, these two clubs are somewhat close, in terms of average yardage. Peyton Manning and Oakland’s quarterback, Carson Palmer, have passed for more than 3,500 yards and they average about the same in passing yards per game, too. Denver has a 284 yard per game average and Oakland has 280 ypg. The Broncos have been running the ball better, averaging 103 ypg. Oakland’s average is 83 ypg. But Denver has lost RB Willis McGahee to an injury, so those numbers could be misleading.

While some yardage numbers are close, Denver has been putting up 29.1 points per game. That’s the 3rd best average among teams in the 2012 NFL football wagering season. This is nearly 10 points a game better than Oakland’s average of 19.6. The Raiders may pin their hopes on backup QB Terrelle Pryor in the last 4 games of the season.

Aside from the QB question, the biggest difference between these two teams is on the other side of the ball. Denver’s defense has the NFL’s top sack man, Von Miller, and this club can stop the run –and the pass. Oakland’s defense is the NFL’s worst in scoring defense, allowing 31.3 points per game.

That 31 points the Raiders have been allowing on defense was the margin Denver had over Oakland earlier in the season with their first matchup in Denver. The Broncos beat the Raiders 37-6 in a contest that saw the Broncos run over 500 yards of offense and score 27 points in the second half. Denver has won 2 games in a row against Oakland. However, not long ago, Oakland had the upper hand in this rivalry. Oakland won 4 games in a row, from 2009 to 2011, and they have won 6 of the last 10 games. Going over the last 13 meetings, Oakland is   9-4 against the spread. Even when they seem to stink, they have managed to be a solid wager over the years.

On Thursday games, both of these clubs usually play under in AFC West games, an NFL expert at YouWager points out. At this sportsbook, the total is 48. Game time on Thursday night is 8:20PM Eastern.
