Toledo Rockets vs. Akron Zips
Tip-off: Tuesday, November 20, 2012 – 7:00 PM ET
Glass Bowl, TOLEDO, OH
Tonight, the Toledo Rockets will have a chance to impress their YouWager fans by finishing the regular season with a victory over the Akron Zips.
Fans weren’t expecting too much from the Zips this years and judging by their one victory, the expectations couldn’t be more accurate. Akron has indeed performed better than in previous seasons but that statement doesn’t apply to their 22-14 loss at home to the Massachusetts Minutemen giving this team their first ever Division I victory. This wasn’t want fans weren’t looking forward too with the offense moving the ball well enough with 427 yards but otherwise it wasn’t pretty. This college football team fumbled four times and lost one and also threw four interceptions to negate a strong defensive stand that saw the Minutemen total just 327 yards.
Jawon Chisolm gave the ground game 103 yards and a score while Dalton Williams (34-51/322) threw for some big yardage but killed his team with four interceptions.
The Rockets saw their shot at the MAC West title disappear with a week 12 31-24 loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies. Toledo had plenty of opportunities to come out on top but a 14-7 half time bulge disappeared in a 21-0 third quarter explosion from NIU. The Huskies rode the running and passing of Jordan Lynch to nearly 600 yards while Toledo checked in with almost 400 yards.
The Rockets attack has a lot to do running the ball but star back David Fluellen was limited to 79 yards on 22 totes as the rushing game was not effective. The passing of Terrance Owens (22-32/265) was positive except for the mistakes with three interceptions taking points off the board.
After watching the Zips fall all over themselves against the Minutemen, it’s going to be tough for them to win. Nevertheless, with the NCAA football schedule left and with Fluellen out with an ankle injury a cover is possible but than again predicting
